Skylights are commonly used for residential purposes to make residents’ living experience more comfortable and give homes an elevated, modern, and elegant look. This skylight project was entirely planned, designed, manufactured, and installed by Almamary at a private villa in the KSA.
To protect the skylight from intense heat and keep the indoors cool, Almamary professionals chose to incorporate high-performance glazing. Regular glazing refers to the transparent panels used in skylights to transfer natural light to enter the space, but high-performance glazing is slightly different.
High-performance glazing integrates various mechanisms that make it more efficient in regulating heat gain and heat loss and overall thermal control. To adapt to the KSA’s hot climate, the techniques used in this skylight keep the inside temperature cool without relying too much on HVAC systems.
The shape takes the form of a dome, making up a half-circular profile that allows natural light to enter from above. It creates an inviting feel thanks to its rounded shape, which works perfectly in cosy homes. The shape, however, is not simply determined by aesthetic preferences, as it is also influenced by the overall structural needs and roof requirements.
